Description

Zeman´s idea and script for the film were based on traditional Czech fairy tales. John, a young knight, goes out into the world in search of success and fortune, but he is confronted by hardships and privations. At the end of his struggles, howerver, he manages to win the love of the lovely water-nymph Mary and learns where true hapiness lies.

This melancholic tale won prizes in Italy and Portugal.

It was wonderful to find this childhood favourite after all these years. We had this fairytale as VHS in our local library and I remember loaning it several times. Just watched this yesterday first time in a long time and it is amazing how well I remembered the story, the songs and the characters ❤️ I am now almost 35 years old and I think I was about 10 when I used to watch this alot. I will watch this in the future with my own children, when they are old enough. Regards, Salla from Finland
