The four boys travel against the flow of time and the landscape around them gradually changes. They carefully record their exciting encounters with prehistoric flora and fauna in their diaries. They find themselves in different periods and environments. They visit a prehistoric cave with murals and, in one of the key episodes, witness a duel between Mesozoic giant lizards. Through a jungle of horsetails and fins, they eventually reach the sea in the primordial era. There they find a living trilobite, whose modern-day remains were the motive for their expedition.
